Despite the fact that Swedish streaming service Spotify is raising a strong round of funding, Apple’s App Store subscription fee is said to threaten derailment of the companies business model. Without even trying, I’ve seen multiple subscription services complain openly about the 30 percent fee. What this likely means is that most subscription services wouldn’t be able to stay on the Apple platform. Seems convenient for Apple to force music service competitors off of their app platform, although the business model may not be as simplistic as that. Onlookers seem convinced, however, that Apple has high interest in holding Spotify back from a launch in America, as the competing service is poised for a landmark breakthrough with the help of it’s anticipated funding round. Spotify itself has recently blamed Apple for challenges its had launching in the US. The service has had great success in European markets.
